Bosch 425HN NG Tankless Water Heater Review

(More customer reviews)Not a lot of difference as far as the home owner is concerned from the 1600H model. This is as stated, a single appliance water heater and with all tankless be aware the actual performance varies widely depending on in fluent water temperatures and gas availability. You can not replace this where your old 40 gallon sat using the same 1/2" gas and vent. It requires a 5" type B vent, 3/4" gas and a .6 gallon per minute flow. It does have a rather poor design on the hydro generator that is susceptible to the most minute particles causing it to fail to create the voltage needed to spark and ignite. Its advantage if you do not have power and want a model that does not have a standing pilot, this is ideal. There is no freeze protection and it can be damaged by cold winter down drafts and not a good candidate for areas that experience freezing temperatures.
Unless you have a manometer and multi meter to check values, you can not work on this your self if service is needed and don't expect most plumbers to have them either.
Bosch does not have anywhere nearly enough trained service personnel to field support their products and their installation manuals are not a help here.
Due diligence is a must before buying any tankless water heater. Call their technical support and ask yourself, do I want to spend this much time waiting for help if and when the time comes? At the end of the day, it's all about service. Take it from a former Bosch Authorized Service Provider...

(More customer reviews)The TITAN SCR3 N160 Electric Tankless Water Heater was easy to install. I bought a unit and my dad and I installed it in just a few hours. We are in Florida, so I figured this unit would more than handle our hot water needs.
Unfortunately, the unit stopped working after about a week. I called Titan and they explained to me how to reset the unit. I just had to turn off the breaker to the unit, then push a very small screw driver into a reset hole in the front of the unit until it clicked. The reset hole is not really noticeable unless you are looking for it.
I had to reset the unit several times during the course of getting the problem fixed.
After going back and forth between the seller, who stopped carrying the 160s, and the manufacturer, who said they would fix it if I shipped it to them, leaving me without hot water for several days, I finally got the seller to buy one for me from the manufacturer and have it drop shipped to me. I was not happy about having to pay shipping costs again and shipping costs to return the defective unit, but I didn't have much choice.
During this process of trying to get my water heater working, I did speak in detail to one of the techs at Titan and they told me these units are sensitive to sediment in the water and highly recommended putting a sediment filter in front of it. When I received the replacement unit, before putting it in, I bought a sediment filter from wal-mart and put in front of the input line.
The new unit is working great and our showers are plenty hot. It's an interesting side-effect, but our dishes in our dishwasher are cleaner, too, but I attribute this more to adding the sediment filter to the hot water line.
We can't take more than one shower at a time or run the dishwasher while taking a shower, which we expected but this really isn't a problem for our family. The bath water comes out plenty hot as well without any problems.

(More customer reviews)We did a lot of research when determining what type of hot water heater we wanted. Our main goal was to be able to disconnect the tankless coil on our oil boiler. Why disconnect the tankless? First of all, it belched fumes into our back yard all year long. Nothing would make me madder than trying to enjoy the back yard on a warm summer's day and having to smell fumes because the darned boiler came on to heat up residential hot water. The other thing I don't like about tankless boilers is that they are very inefficient. That's reason number 2 for switching hot water systems - to save money. Third of all, using less fossil fuel is good for the environment and that's important to us. Some friends were skeptical when we said we were getting an electric hot water heater, but I don't think they understand how this thing works. It's not your father's electric hot water heater. You might wonder how a device that uses, for example, a joule of energy could possibly produce 2.5 joules of heat. But it is possible if the device is merely moving heat from point A to point B. That's what the Stiebel Eltron does, and does very well. It does have a backup heating element for situations in which the compressor is not able to provide enough heat by itself, but most of the time, the heating element is not used.
So how does it work? Great! The water is piping hot and, owing to the large 80 gallon capacity, there is always plenty of hot water even for our 5-person family. It wasn't cheap, but it is a qualified purchase for the $1500 federal energy efficiency tax credit. So whatever you pay for it, you'll get $1500 back at tax time.
We positioned ours in the basement, close to the boiler, so that it can use some of the standby-loss heat that the boiler would otherwise waste. This does bring up one thing that you should be aware of - this unit will indeed make your basement colder. It's basically like having a window air conditioner running in your basement. Our basement isn't frigid, because the basement walls, being as they are underground, really buffer temperatures anyway. But it's definitely a little chillier down there than it was before we installed the Stiebel.
As for the bottom line... well first of all, don't underestimate how much it will cost to install this unit. We had a certified installer perform the work for us and the bill came to around $6500. After the tax credit, it's more like $5000. We were able to get a zero percent energy efficiency loan sponsored by the state of MA (I've been told other states have similar programs), so we're paying about $50 per month to own it. So are we saving $50 per month in fuel oil? Probably... it's a little hard to say just yet, as we've only had it for a few months. We won't really know for sure until we've had it for a year or more and can compare our year to year oil usage. One thing I will say though, is that the hit to our electric bill has been negligible. We really haven't noticed any increase in our electric bill at all. Maybe a couple bucks. We calculated that the unit will pay for itself in about 6 years... time will tell if those calculations are accurate.
I think it will really start to pay for itself next spring. I plan on turning the oil boiler off as soon as it warms up in the spring and not turning it on again until it gets cold again in autumn. Zero oil usage all summer! (Side note, an oil guy once told me that you shouldn't turn the boiler off for extended periods of time because the gaskets might crack... others I've spoken to say that's poppycock. It sounds pretty doubtful to me, and frankly, I don't really trust oil salesmen, so I plan on turning it off next summer and we'll see what happens).
So in summary... no regrets so far. Works great, plenty of hot water, barely a blip on the electric bill. Gotta love it.

The unit works well. Was easily installed. Water heat is fine for our small-demand house (2bed/2bath/1500SF). The only thing that takes some getting used to is the minimum flow requirement. There's no way to get any hot water without turning a given fauct on at over 50% capacity. And single-knob showers can get a little tricky to balance.
NOTEZ BIEN:
Before installing, verify that your grid tie-in is sufficient. My panel is 200A, but the utility company tied in with a wire only capable of carrying 100A. This was fine for my house until this unit was installed. It requires 3@40A breakers, which was no problem...plenty of room on the board. But now, whenever the hot water flows, the lights throughout the house start a pulsing. I've called my retail provider, my utilities service provider, and the service director several times over the last 2 weeks, and can't get anyone to get out here and run thicker copper. It's not too annoying, but I'm concerned that the wire's going to fry if they don't get their act together and figure out whose job it is to fix this.
****Update****
Even with the electrical issues taken care of, the unit I bought, which worked well for several months, started acting up on me. Intermittent hot/lukewarm was a major issue. No flow problems: was running a shower alone. After some time, I opened the box and noticed that the unit had a leak in one of the 3 "coils" (tubes, really). I called the manufacturer, they verified the warranty info, and sent me a new unit. The new unit worked for about 6 months before it also stopped providing hot water. Not sure how I ended up with 2 dogs, but that was enough. No leaking the second time around, but I gave up and went with a regular tank, as the house was by then a rental.
I'd drop it to one star if it wasn't for the great customer service I received.

In fact, a negative review can be written against a seller by an industry competitor or simply because of a bias based upon perceived differences in their geographical location, their race, their gender, their sexual or religious points of view. This system lays waste to honest sellers simply because they are targeted for abuse by these Amazon users who wish to do nothing more than harm innocent businesses.
That being said, I am a customer and have actually on two occasions purchased a tankless water heater from this company. In fact I found them to be quite honorable and very well organized. I surmise that indeed they are a small company but in today's world, this is sometimes a benefit. Certainly their customer support system is based within the USA, and not subcontracted to Asia. When speaking to them on the telephone, I found them to be polite, professional and efficient. The products worked perfect for my needs and we are using them every day for quite some time now. In fact, I have no idea about their race, religious, or political views and could care less. What I do know is that the products I purchased are what I was looking for. So, at the time of this writing, you can count this review as the only one actually written by a customer of EZtankless.

Boiling water for condensed soups would be my suggestion but that means another seperate container/cup to mix...more to do. Or you could buy a nice thermos here on Amazon that's gauranteed to keep anything hot or cold for at least 8 to 12 hours. I use a combination of both being on the road 3 to 4 hours a day & avoiding fast foods.

(More customer reviews)I've had an original Simer Geyser pump since 1987 and it is still working good. I use it to pump my pool cover and to pump out my pond. The original Geyser had an all-metal case and has withstood getting frozen solid in ice for weeks at time and getting clogged with muck. It can also run dry for days at a time if someone forgets to shut it off. The Geyser II has a plastic case and so far has not been tested in solid ice. (I'll update this review after the winter.)
Tip: To cut down on leaves and muck clogging the unit, I put the pump in a 5 gal. bucket that I have drilled with many ¼" holes to act as a filter.

Now I have used it for a month, my conclusion is that this water heater can't even heat water for a single sink. The relays constantly switch off and on, thus even when water becomes slightly warm, it goes back to cold. This is possibly due to fluctuations in water pressure.
In a laboratory setting this heater may have supplied tepid water, but in the real world it is useless.

(More customer reviews)I have the Natural Gas "NG" version of this. I learned more than I anticipated needing to, on my quest for the perfect tankless water heater. The Bosch 800 series was my perfect model.
While it is now obvious to me why this model is head and shoulders above anything else, you may need to spend some time learning about tankless water heaters to see why it is so significant.
1) Ultra efficient, it has 92% efficiency. Only the top of the line models are this efficient. This means lower yearly costs.
2) Powerful: 10 gpm! This puppy can power most houses that have mutiple showers and sinks. It is their highest flow unit. It can also be daisy chained so another unit can be attached.
3) 15 year PRO warranty. Instead of the 5 year or 10 year of other models.
4) New Technology. This is the only Bosch unit to have the technology to create this efficiency and the cooling benefits.
5) Reliable. Even though it is cutting edge, some of its parts are based on the 715 unit that is very reliable.
6) Easy repair. Bosch has one of the most extensive list of certified repairmen. Also, unlike other companies, most of the parts can be replaced and are easily available, due to its popularity.
8) Low heat. This model has 2 condensers. That is why it is more efficient. The added benefit is that the heat coming out of this is like a hair dryer. Much MUCH cooler than most units.
9) PVC pipe can be used. I dont know of ANY other water heater that can be vented with PVC pipe. That means smaller pipes, easier work, and much cheaper. Normally water heaters need galvanized vent or Stainless steel venting which is extremely expensive. It can easily cost $300 or more.
10) Concentric Venting (one hole). Because the exhaust is so cool, you can use a Concentric Vent to combine both intake and exhaust from one hole (wall or roof). Without this a water heater need TWO 3 or 4 inch in diameter holes, at least 3 feet from each other. So the extremely hot exaust does not get used in the intake and overheat the unit.
