(More customer reviews)I had not previously heard of this brand, but Amazon's great price made it hard to pass up. I purchased this generator for home emergency purposes. I Ordered it on Sunday night and received it on the following Thursday. There was no visual damage to the box that would indicate rough handling by the shipper. However, upon removing the generator from the box there was minor damage to a couple of items (nothing that would prevent operation). I called the manufacturer and the representative politely agreed to replace the items.
The generator does not come with a battery for the electric starter. The manufacturer's representative stated that it required an Everstart ES12N94B1 battery, which I found at Wal-mart. After adding oil and a little gas the generator started right up with only three easy pulls (I had not installed the battery at that point). The generator started so easy, in fact, that I am considering taking the battery back and not using the electric starter. This generator appears to be of good quality and at this point I am completely satisfied with the product.

3M AA00DC-6 Advanced Allergen Furnace Filter Review

(More customer reviews)My house uses forced air for heating. The disadvantage of such a system is that it distributes the dust in the air everywhere in the house. However, it is supposed to be possible to filter out the dust. Over the years, I have steadily increased the quality of the filter that I use for my forced air heating system. However, until now I have not noticed any obvious difference in my allergic reactions that seem to start with the heating season.
There are two cats in my house. I have read that cat dander, tiny flakes of cat skin shed by the cats, is five times smaller than household dust particles. It stays in the air much longer than ordinary dust before it settles. Because of its small size it requires a more efficient filter to get it out of the air.
Until this year, I have used of variety of filters with mixed results. However, this year, I started using the 3M Advanced Allergen Filters, the ones in the blue wrapper. These have a 3M Microparticle Performance Rating of 1500, but do not have a MERV rating listed. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value and is a number from 1 to 12, produced from a test designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). A higher MERV rating indicates better filter performance. 3M uses particle data between 0.3 and 1.0 micron size to calculate a Microparticle Performance Rating or MPR. The higher the MPR, the better the filter. However, higher rated filters cost more.

The difference made by the Advanced filter was immediately obvious. My running nose stopped running. I assume that the new Advanced filters must be taking out more of the dust in the air including the cat dander. I have not noticed a change in the speed of the circulated air. The additional cost of the Advanced filter is worth it if you have allergies or pets. However, if you are happy with a lower-rated and lower-cost filter, then you can continue using that one. I suggest that you check Amazon and vendors on the web to get the best price.

PLEASE READ:There is no industry standard for Unions. The various brands have their own unique style, which means you must use the unions provided with our spa pump. (More customer reviews)Beware! Do not buy this item or any other item manufactured by Haier America. I purchased the air conditioner to cool my office nook that is in the finished attic of my home. All I wanted was to get some extra cool air up here since our central air system does not get enough cool air up here (the attic was finished well after having central air in rest of the house, so it was not designed to cool up here.)
I bought THIS air conditioner.....I could have bought something cheaper (and I probably should have), but I "thought" you get what you pay for, so I better pay a little more and get a better machine. I couldn't have been more wrong.
I used this machine 3-4 times, stored it (by its proper guidelines) for the winter. I went to use it last month, and it DOES NOT work. I have spent at least 8 hours on the phone with the so-called "manager" of their customer service department who has been nothing but out-of-his-way rude to me the whole time! he is the kind of guy that makes you want to go into rants with MANY 4-lettered words, his arrogance is UNBEARABLE.
I have gotten so many run-arounds from them it isn't even funny. After almost a week they say they will send a repair person out in 24-48 hours. Their repair person arrived 6 DAYS later. Repair man said it needs two parts and that he will order them the same day and put a rush on them to arrive in 2-3 days. A WEEK later I receive a phone call that the parts are on backorder, with no estimate as to when they will arrive. Surprise, Surprise...
In my opinion (and if you do a google search you will see MANY have come to the same conclusion) they are simply stalling in the hopes that you will either give up, or the warranty will expire before they finally get around to fixing it. Either way I can guarantee that I will NEVER buy anything made by Haier America again.....Beware when purchasing as this HORRIBLE company also makes refrigerators, HDTVs, cell phones, and any other electronic under the sun......Probably why they are so bad at what they do.....they try to make hundreds of crappy products instead of a few really good ones.
Unfortunately for this company I do not tolerate being taken advantage of and I will pursue the matter until they make things right. All I want is what I paid for...A WORKING portable air conditioner so I can be comfortable working in my home office.

Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat Review

(More customer reviews)Honeywell makes a very large line of programmable electronic thermostats. At first glance, this particular thermostat has nothing to distinguish it from any other programmable tstat from your local hardware store. (7-day programming, +/- 1 degree accuracy, etc.) However, this thermostat has some functions that make it quite a bit better. I've had RiteTemp's and Lux tstats, and this one is much better.
Most electronic thermostats kick on the system when you are one degree under, and then run it until you are one degree over. This (and all Honeywell electronic tstats) instead target a certain number of cycles per hour (based on system type), and try and hold the temperature as constant as possible. Since I installed this a few days ago, it has not budged off of the setpoint.
Another cool feature is the recovery feature. Basically, it measures how quickly your house is losing heat (or warming up, in the summer), and kicks on the system at the correct time so it is at your setpoint right at the time you program. This eliminates guessing how long it will take your house to heat so it will be toasty when you get home at 6PM. Instead, you just set the tstat for 6PM and let it figure out the rest.
The install guide is clear and presented me with no problems. Admittedly, I don't have a complicated system (1-stage heat/cool.) It tells you how to properly wire it, and is fairly straightforward on when you need to call for help. Most folks shouldn't have any problems.
IMPORTANT: Use the included wire stickers! Some installers do not attach, say, the white wire to the "W" terminal. Depending on whim, they can completely attach the wires at random. Bad things happen if you plug the wrong wire onto the wrong terminal. If a wire was on the "W" terminal before, it needs to go on the new W terminal, even if it is bright yellow.
I didn't have any trouble at all programming this one... in a few easy steps:
1) Hit the "Schedule" button.
2) Use the arrow keys and the "select" button to select which day(s) you want to program. Hit "Next Step".
3) Use the arrow keys and "Next Step" to go through the setpoints and times.
4) Hit "Done" when finished.
If you need to set any advanced options (like changing to a two-stage furnace or A/C, setting heat pump options, etc.): Hit "System", then hold down "Fan" for five seconds. Use the table in the manual and "Next Step" to pull up the option you need to change and use the arrow keys to change it. I set up the Filter Change Reminder that way. The fact you have to refer to the manual isn't that bad since they are options you won't have to change more than once.

Although the company has been absolutely great about replacing these units @ no charge, we're getting frustrated removing and re-installing units and find the inconvenience of the down time quite annoying. Some interior electrical components overheat and begin melting insulation fortunately tripping the main breaker before further damage results.
Unit is installed per specifications with company supplied approved faucet and receives filtered water. We are not going to install another despite the fact #3 is still under warranty.

This product works perfectly even though the room is much larger than 250sq ft.This portable AC only costs 50 cents a day to run, considerably less than running the central air. It's quieter than I expected and the air is very cold. The only thing I don't like is the instruction manual - just not enough info.The exhaust hose must be mounted properly to the outside through a window. All portable AC units create a vacuum in the room and if the exhaust hose is not practically air tight, more warm air from outside will come in than cold air blowing out. I have had it for a week now and it has yet to need the water reservoir emptied.

Now there is warm water instantly and hot water is just seconds behind. It has been extremely nice this winter, avoiding freezing water from the tap.
Cheaper recirculating pumps utilize a a plastic valve under the sink that will wear out and need replacement. The body of the valve in this pump is brass and looks like it will last for a very long time.

(More customer reviews)I did not order this via amazon.com, I got it from another vendor who referred me to the manufacturer royal sovereign for service when the unit arrived with a defective hose.
I contacted the manufacturer and sent them the information they requested via fax. This took several tries but I finally got it through with a successful fax report.
Over a month went by and I did not receive the replacement hose, I tried to re-fax them and got rejected about 10 times in a row. My emails have not been returned.
I jury rigged the broken hose with a replacement dryer hose from the hardware store and the story continues. The unit itself will blow alot of cold air, but thats only when its working. It fills up with water far too often, and at one point I found the entire radiator unit completely caked in ice. To 'ice' the cake so to speak this thing is as loud as an 18 wheeler in your living room. You can hear it, annoyingly sometimes even feel it shudder, 2 rooms away. Finally I noticed an enormous hit on my electric bill as the unit is NOT energy star rated.
I would not recommend this to anyone, spend the 2 or 3 hundred extra and get a name brand unit - I am sure you will be happier.

(More customer reviews)Its two years since I purchased this and happened upon this link today. I remember doing a great amount of research when I bought this unit. It is NOT like the one being reviewed with 2 stars.
One key point - it has two hoses - input and output (not one like many units out there). It's very good at evaporating the water it takes out of the room (the two hoses are supposedly responsible for this efficiency). I have yet to empty the tank. The unit comes with a window package that holds the tubes in place (its made of heavy duty plastic).
As to moving it around, no big problems - it is a beast to move on the stairs, but ..... its an air conditioner, not a fan.
I normally use it to cool down a 20x20 room (9 foot ceilings). It does take longer than I'd like, but if it's a humid night, it gets the room in a "sleepable" condition in about 1 hour.
The reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the remote control gives you options that you can't get from the panel. If you lose the remote, you lose the functionality (there may be a secret set of buttons you push to get the function, I haven't figure them out yet). The manufacturer's site is lacking in docs.

It boils water faster than my professional-grade Viking, and I can control the heat as quickly and precisely as I can on a gas range. From simmer to sear, it does it all. I teach cooking to kids, so I especially like that it's safer than other cooktops--no flame, and the surface stays relatively cool (there's some heat transfer from the pot, however, so you still need to be careful). Two drawbacks: you can only use induction-compatable cookware (anything that attracts a magnet will do), and you need a very reliable power supply, because this little guy requires a lot of juice.

I gave it only 4 * b/c it had no instructions in the package and even the description here was not that informative. Not that it is rocket science to install but I did pinch my fingers between the 2 magnents whilest trying to install it b/c I didn't realize the magnets weren't affixed to the brackets. they were very difficult to get back apart. I installed it around 9pm & ran the dishwasher. The dishes are already look better - less white residue and my skin is feeling less dry & cracked. I boiled some water and there was almost no white residue in the pot. I have no reason to believe it won't breakdown the existing residue as claimed but if it doesn't I will revise my review.

Little Hotties Hand Warmers 40 Pairs Plus Toe Warmers 3 Pairs Review

I will compare this brand of warmer directly to the other most popular brand here on Amazon which is Heatmax Hot Hands for your convenience. To appreciate hand warmers is to define the factors that are important to look for in a hand warmer or disposable warming device. Notably the factors one should look for are permeability, longevity, output and shelf life.
Permeability can be measured in two ways; the ability to transfer heat from the sachet to the surrounding area and the ability to retard moisture from entering the sachet. Longevity is simply the run time of the sachet being warm enough for its intended application. Output is the level of heat generated from the sachet, and shelf life is length of time the sachets can be left alone before loosing their effectiveness when used.
Little Hotties hand warmers fare well in 2 out of 4 categories; namely output and longevity. Compared to Heatmax Hot Hands, they loose out on permeability and shelf life. Both brands (in my experience) have their pros and cons in direct correlation to one another and allows me to switch on the fly between them when stocking up.
The critical aspects of Little Hotties is their poor permeability followed by a short shelf life. The material used to contain the mix in Little Hotties is a very simple cloth like sachet that is too thin for my tastes. It causes an unpleasant if not downright burn to the skin once the packet is fully activated, and can only be reasonably used between a thin layer of clothing. Making matters worse, water can easily enter the sachet material causing the reaction to speed up and dramatically shorten the overall run time. For shelf life, I had a few boxes of Little Hotties from Amazon for no more than a year old that had bad run times. Although they were not technically expired, you could fee the sachets inside the box to be "hard" from being left alone so long, and they only ran about 4-5 hours when used compared to fresh packets which ran most of the time up to about 7 hours.
The positive aspects of Little Hotties is their output level far and foremost. Heatmax Hot Hands get nowhere near the heat level that Little Hotties provides; as often times I had a hard time handling a fully activated Little Hottie sachet with my bare skin compared to the gentle warmness of the Hot Hands sachets. It should be noted that the amount of mix inside a Little Hotties sachet is also significantly more than the one in Heatmax Hot Hands, which I primarily assume is the reason why the output is much hotter. Longevity is a mixed bag depending if you're using a fresh or stale sachet, but fresh ones last up to 7 hours and provide a tremendous amount of heat during that time, compared to the 3-4 hours of usable heat from the Hot Hands sachets.
So to sum up my review in a few words; get the Little Hotties brand of hand warmers if you need high temperature sachets in a relatively dry application. Get the Heatmax Hot Hands if you need a more subtle heat temperature and are using them in a relatively wet application, as they have better water retardation in their sachets. For emergencies, it's better to store Heatmax Hot Hands as they have a better shelf life, but for day to day use, the Little Hotties are better for their intended purposes.
Update: December 07 2010
So it's been roughly almost a year since I wrote this review - and not much has changed. Like clockwork - a box of Little Hotties I bought last year from Amazon at the time I wrote the review are now somewhat in "stale" condition (5 pairs I have left). The sachets themselves only last roughly 4-5 hours before dying out - and the heat output is somewhat sporadic from very hot to warm.
Heatmax Hot Hands brand warmers that I have from 2 years ago are still going strong (for what it's worth) even though the heat output is still nowhere near as strong as the Little Hotties (if they're fresh). The more things change; the more they stay the same I guess - I just wanted to let folks know that it's business as usual and my original review still stands accurate today.
